Old 1912 Postcard

Old PennYan Postcard 1912

I inherited this little gem recently. It’s an old postcard, written by a relative to my great-great-grandma. I am thrilled with such things. My g-g-grandma and g-grandma were such packrats. They saved all the old birthday cards, holidays cards and such items in scrapbooks. Pretty amazing! I love reading some of the things they wrote. Everything was so different back then.

Also note that the spelling and grammar was atrocious. Notice the “thair” for “there.” These folks were farmers, really hard-working people and therefore they didn’t have much time or energy to mess around with literature. I’m sure that if the world had invented audio conferencing back then, my ancestors would have preferred to all that fancy-pants spelling and grammar!

Marshall Arts

23 Feb

Oh the photo is teeny tiny… can you see it?

It’s my son’s bass guitar and amplifier. LOL, he took a photo of it! He created a nice new blog, MarshallBrickster.blogspot.com. He calls it “Marshall Arts” after his amp. LOL, very creative. He’s young, but he’s a very good writer, a surprisingly good writer. Makes me wonder what may develop from it…. Maybe if I get him an apogee duet he’ll create another blog?!

He, like the other kids (and me, lately) have not had much time for creative outlets. We’ve been very busy with school and house cleaning and, now that spring approaches, yard work and such. I also see that I have to get some projects done around the house, too. *sigh*

How is your time going? Do you have any spring plans?

Going Back

Liberty Island1

I’ll be going back to New York City again sometime again soon. I’m really looking forward to it, as I like the city. But it can be very stressful. First, there’s the loooooong drive. Then there’s the loooong train ride (which is otherwise very pleasant, just long). Then, after the relative peacefulness of the train ride, you are dumped into Manhattan with millions of other people. The place is like a living, squirming organism. Pretty hectic. Then, there’s finding your equilibrium so you know which direction to go. Whew, I’m tired remembering it!

But it’s a birthday gift to my daughters. Their birthdays are near each other and it’s therefore easy to get package deals. Of course, we do celebrate their own days separately. Thank God for redenvelope promo codes, too– gifts are SO much easier when you get a nice little discount along with it. :)

As the kids get older, it seems they like the more meaningful gifts. Instead of trinkets, a nice gift and a trip or something memorable are terrific.

Blue Mountain Climbing 22

It’s a wonderful thing when you find some photos you didn’t know you had. :)

The photo is from my son’s camera, when we hiked up Blue Mountain in the Adirondacks last September. It seems like a million miles away now. It would be SO COOL to make a photo like this into a huge wall mural or a tiny one into metal switch plate covers or something. The scene is just breathtaking.

I hope we can get back to the Adirondacks in the near future.

Random Old House

I got an odd email today. Someone from a new fashion magazine asked if I knew of any old house near New York City that would be suitable for a photo shoot.

LOL.

I wish I could offer detailed advice. Upstate NY is almost ALL old houses, lol.
