Is This Nessie?

25 Apr

This photo is not mine today. It’s an image from “Twitter/Nick Vitale.” It’s a sonar image taken off a boat on the Loch Ness. A tour guide spotted something on the sonar near the Urquart Castle. He watched as the image grew larger and larger, and he snapped a photo in amazement (mingled with alarm, no doubt).

You can read the story here.

Oh, I’m sure the “Nessie doubters” will be coming out of the woodwork, but I really think there’s something down there. Images like this aren’t created from a fallen log or bundle of sticks, no way. According to the news report, the thing in the sonar is estimated to be 75 feet long and 5 feet wide. WHOA.

It may be an eel… it may be a pleisosaur! I think it’s something. There have been too many eyewitness accounts and interesting images taken over the years.

For the Love of a Cat

Isn’t she adorable?!

On the other hand, she is being very BAD for laying on my table while it has a tablecloth. She knows she is not supposed to do that. She’s probably turning on the cuteness big time, trying to butter me up. :-p And it’s working.

She’s my little companion, you know. She tags along wherever I go. Sometimes (like now) when I am busy and not paying attention to her, she clambers all over the desk, the shelves, the printer (hitting the “on” button!)…. in the bedroom it’s worse. There, in the middle of the night, she tramples all over the bed, the pillows, the bedroom vanity– knocking things down as she goes. Ugh. I think it’s because she gets hungry. At 4 in the morning?!?!?!

But then I look at this photo and I realize why I spoil her so. Man, she’s cute. LOL

An Interesting Metal… Thingy

Little Falls Canal Park sculpture

I know it’s saying something…. no idea what, lol.

Is there any beauty to metal?

I don’t know. I only like metal that has been painted (like metal roofs or pole barns or metal buildings) or metal that has been coated, like enameled things or jewelry. What is it about metal that screams “utilitarian”? The gray color? The coldness of the material? The sharp, unyielding angles?

Metal sculpture eludes me. I look at it and I see drab utilitarianism. It has its purpose… but that’s about it. Now, compare metal with wood. I have never met a person who hated wood. There’s something inate about our love of wood. But metal? Hmmm.

Down in the Valley

… valley sooo looooow, loooow, loooooow….

My daughter has been learning that old folk song on her guitar. Ever hear it? It’s an old one, people used to hum it while lolling on their patio swings and working out in the cotton fields, yes indeed. The melody runs through my head ALL. THE. TIME. After spending untold hours on the fret work on it, she asked me, “Mom, how did that song EVER get to be so popular?”

I don’t know, my dear…. I don’t knooooowwww, knooooow, knoooooowwwwwwww…..
