Le Sigh

The snow is gone. The birds are singing. Life is bustling about after a long winter.

And the Princess is bored. out. of. her. skull.

She’s desperate to go outside. She pines before the windows while I sit at the computer and write. When I get up to fetch a coffee refill or check on the kids’ schoolwork, she trots closely behind me, nipping at my heels and whining to go out.

She’s an indoor cat. She cannot go outside. She doesn’t understand. She whines louder– Siamese do whine very loudly, did you know that?

The road is close to my house. The yard is filled with mangy neighborhood dogs who find our property their defecation box; the cats are wormy and cantankerous. I have taken her out on a harness, but it’s so difficult to veer her past the big piles of dog poop and grouchy tabbies. They dislike her company very much; they scowl at her exuberance with a baleful eye. It’s better for all that she remain inside. Especially for me, as I have work to do. :)

Three Weeks

2.25snow

Hard to believe this was the yard three weeks ago (February 25, 2010). Almost all of it is gone now, having melted right into my basement. :-p The sump pump goes night and day. The yard is like a bog. But I am happy to see it go. I’m hoping the sun comes out someday, to dry us out.

We’re not out of the woods yet; we’ve had major snowfall in March and April before. So while I’m enjoying the thought of seeing green again very soon, I know better than to get my hopes up too much, too soon.

Still, I’m thinking of my next new flowerbed. Oh, and what vegetables shall I plant this year?! !

Doors to Winter Wonderland

Doors

Taken at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. These were just doors. Nothing special. In the summer, I assume they are open to allow guests out to the pond, or the nature trails. On the blustery day that I visited, they were our protection from the icy, swirling Adirondack winds and snows. I love that warm brown color.

The Wild Center is a wonderful place. I noticed that they are hiring, too. What a wonderful place this must be to work! I’m sure many budding young naturalists have made their careers in such places. It’s a quiet, thoughtful, and very beautiful place. I’ve never been a “science” person, but I’ve always loved nature and God’s beautiful creation. How wonderful it would be to come to such a place every day, and get paid, even!
