Renovation is Tough on the Cat

22 Sep

LivvyBox4

Livvy, my indoor darling, has had a rough time during the renovation. Oh sure. there are always bix boxes to play in, packing peanuts to jump through, new stuff to sniff and inspect. But she’s been a real grouch, and I can’t wait until things are back to normal so that we can have our sweet kitty back again.

She doesn’t like change. Her food dishes are always in different places, depending on which room we’re renovating. The dishwasher makes a lot of noise and scares her to pieces. She sometimes is locked away upstairs because of the dangerous equipment, or because we don’t want her to escape through an open door.

She’s rail thin, and I worry about her. I worry if the stress of the constant changes here are making her skinny. It’s not some apidexin scam– I am truly worried about her weight! Siamese are naturally thin, but when I pet her, I can feel her shoulder bones. :( She is getting enough to eat, but…

This is all just ANOTHER reason why we need to FINISH this huge project!

I have NO IDEA how he got so tubby. We don’t overfeed him, and he doesn’t eat mice or other rodents. Must be in the genes.

Le Fuzzie, Le Enfant

I’m usually blogging about my personal companion, Livvy (my Tabby Point Siamese cat), but we do have a few other cats around the homestead. Livvy is an indoor, kitty, but Milo and Fuzzy are outside cats. They are tabbies, and are much better suited to the wild outdoors. Milo is an orange striped tabby, and Fuzzy is a tiger tabby. He’s distinguishable by the black smudge on his nose. He looks like he needs blackhead treatment, but it’s not dirt — it’s just his smudgey coloration. His paws are very dainty white, though.

Fuzzy is such a cutie. He’s my youngest son’s cat, and Fuzzy does love my son.

Fuzzy has a unique personality. He’s quirky. He likes to bury his head under your neck or under your arm. He will eat tomatoes. He has a strange meow, as if he were imitating my son calling for me: MMM-ROwwww-MMM. He chases his tail, round and round and round- he’s hilarious to watch.

Cats are so much fun. :D

The Orb Weaver

18 Sep

Orbweaver

We call them “garden spiders.” I think the “official” nickname of the Araneus spp. is “Orb Weaver.” We have a number of them nesting in the windows of the front of the house. They look HORRIBLY creepy, but they are generally harmless. I didn’t know that when I was a little girl. I used to love to wander through the very tall weeds as a kid– the weeds in the grasslands were often taller than I was. I would run very quickly through the grasses, enjoying the wildness of it all. But the garden spiders liked to make these elaborate webs in the tall weeds. I remember a few times running right into the webs, and encountering these monstrously large spiders. What a fright. Talk about how to lose weight really fast! I ran and ran and ran as FAST I could to get it off me. Thinking about it even now gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I’m not so afraid of them now, now that they remain OUTSIDE and I am safe INSIDE. Plus, I never go running through tall grasses ANYMORE.

Spiders Eating Good

The summer has been a scorcher, here in Upstate New York. Everyone has been moaning about it (me, too!). The bugs are eating goooooood, I tell you. Due to our usually short growing season and cooler temperatures, New York bugs do not usually reach epic proportions. But this year, with heat wave after heat wave, and some super-dousing rains, the bugs are everywhere– in windows, under hot tub covers, under beds, in cars…. And they are BIG.

:-p YUCKO! *shudder*

About this time every year, I say the same thing: “I can’t wait for winter’s frosts to kill the bugs!”

Sorry. It sounds mean. But I dislike bugs VERY much. And while garden spiders are generally harmless and eat lots of the bugs that I especially dislike, they are CREEPY!!! I don’t like having them so close to the house.
