Thendara Trip

26 Jul

NYT Crew By the ADK RR Rock

We took the Adirondack Scenic Railroad to Thendara last week. Oh my word, it was AMAZING! I want to go again!

That photo is us next to the memorial “ADK RR” stone, with a conductor. Do you like our custom t-shirts? ;) I recently ordered a few more as my son will only wear black shirts now. :|

The trip was simply phenomenal. I have yet to write a review– stay tuned for that and for a video I made of the ride.

Cool and Rainy

7 Jun

Mount Defiance

It’s rained nearly every day for over a week now. Oh, it’s not been a washout, so to speak. The mornings are rather fine but after 2:30, the rains almost always falls. I know this for sure, because the boys are supposed to mow the lawn after school, after 2:30. But as soon as they are ready to roll, the rain falls. Uncanny! So most of this early summer we’ve been huddled around our computers, waiting for the rain to end. Which it hasn’t. I hear the weekend will be very hot.

Camera Awesome

Does that photo look awesome to you?

Me neither.

I downloaded an app called Camera Awesome and it’s supposed to help your iPhone take better photos. Well, EDIT photos to make them better. The app IS pretty awesome– it has filtering effects, colorizing effects, Tubing Bender filters like the fish eye effect, cropping (I love that option), and loads more. The choices make me dizzy. But while the effects are awesome, I don’t think the PHOTO is made any better. It’s still a grainy, light-starved iPhone photo.

Which reminds me, I’m due for a phone upgrade in a couple of months. :D And the iPhone 4S has a much better camera! (like, SIX times better!). Hmmmmm. THAT will be awesome.

Cloisters Hall 1

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a month since we visited New York City. I still have not blogged about our trip to The Cloisters in Washington Heights! Bad bad bad! Isn’t the picture pretty? The Cloisters is lovely, a reconstructed French abbey from the 13th century. I just haven’t had any time to write about our trip. I’ve been inundated with big bills (and thus I must work a lot to pay them off). After 1 1/2 years, I’m still paying the kitchen renovation bills. :( Maybe that’s not a lot for some folks, but to me and my little income it’s a lot of work. Oh well, I’m grateful for the kitchen and glad I did it, no matter how much I have to work to pay it off. Of course, I miss those days of “disposable income” when I could go out and get a cool new gadget or eers when I wanted. *sigh*

I hope to catch up with my blogging SOME DAY. Right now, no end in sight!

This Is As Close As I Have Ever Been

Past GeoWash Bridge

To the George Washington Bridge. We zipped past it while on the M4 bus to The Cloisters. I have always wondered how you get on the bridge. I knew there was SOME way, but imagined it a bit like our Upstate arterials where you have to snake around and around all these ramps (with incoming traffic coming right at you!). This ramp seemed quite easy peasy, as easy as climbing those medical step stools, eh?

I like the GW bridge. When I see it brighten the skyline, it means I will be in NYC any moment. It means noise, traffic, activity, excitement. It means I’m here!!!
