George Bailey Bank…

24 Feb

Bailey Bank

Well, my title isn’t completely accurate. But that’s what I call it in my mind.

I mentioned that Seneca Falls, NY, is supposedly the town that Frank Capra patterned Bedford Falls after in his famed movie It’s A Wonderful Life. I don’t think Capra ever said any such thing. As far as I can tell, the only reason why it’s believed he modeled his town after Seneca Falls is because he visited Seneca Falls in 1945 before making the movie. And Bedford Falls does have a lot of that “old-timey” feel to it. I tried to look around, to see if Seneca Falls has that “old-timey” feel… and I couldn’t really see it. Maybe I walked the wrong streets? Or maybe Seneca Falls has changed so much…. it’s no longer a place of beautifully bustling shops and people greeting each other in the streets. The streetlamps are up, though, and they are so pretty. And Seneca Falls holds a Christmas festival every year, so I’ll bet that’s when the city really shines.

Anyway, that’s what I saw– pretty streets, lots of empty stores, lots of “For Rent” signs or placards exclaiming apidexin reviews. And a banner for a musical about George Bailey. But it had been closed down and the building is now for rent. :(

Old Cold Cemetery

Another photo of the cemetery we visited on Paris Hill, NY, on Thanksgiving Day. I don’t know what the pace is called. It’s behind St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Churches were such beautiful buildings back then, in the 1700s. Back then, waaaay before the average person could get anything remotely like an accredited online degree, the parson was the most educated man in the village. He was knowledgeable of the law, or the scriptures, of science and literature….. the townspeople went to the parson for advise, intervention, help. Much has changed since then. Not for the better, as our society now seems to get their values from the television and public schools. How thou art fallen!

Anyway, I guess the church is still in use? Difficult to tell. The cemetery certainly is…

She’s Likes Drooping Evergreens….

Hm. I was sifting through the photos my daughter took of our drive to Paris, NY, and spotted another “drooping evergreen” photo. TWo of them! She must like drooping branches, eh?

We wandered around a very old cemetery in Paris, NY. I found the gravesite of Isaac Paris, for whom the township is named. He did not live in the area, but was buried here, and the town took his name? Why is this?

Well, I’ll have the complete story on my NewYorkTraveler.net blog, when I can EVER find the time to update that poor, neglected blog. but I’ll leave you a tantalizing trailer– in the early days. when people weren’t so much concerned with rosacea treatment as they were with finding their next meal, Isaac Paris saved the people from starvation. You’ll have to wait for the entire story. :D
