It’s not often I lobe for the warm summer days. Summer is perhaps my least-liked season, as I don’t like the humidity and hot temperatures. But today, I am cold and the skies are gloomy and gray. I’m also recovering from a bad bout of blog hack. I’ve been at this computer for a week now, battling the hack. I skipped a week of work to deal with it and now the jobs have piled up. Last thing I want to do is still in the shadows of a cold room and type more. Alack. I have also learned my lesson– I think I need general liability insurance for my websites. I’m looking into purchasing a type of security monitoring/insurance system. The insurance would pay for itself, as I lost a whole week’s income on this blasted hack.

I’ll be taking a little stroll later today, but there may be light rain then. I think that on the next sunny day, I’m going to play hookey and lay in the warm sun.

May the Fourth Be With You!

I think it had it’s start sometime in 1980. The movie The Empire Strikes Back was being filmed in England, and the British elections for prime minister were being held. Margaret Thatcher was up for re-election. Some of the British lads working on the set brought in a paper whose headline read, “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie.” LOL

Is today the official “Star Wars Day”? Someone mentioned it on Facebook.

Me, I won’t be battled evil sith lords today. I’ll be battling evil hackers. My blogs on my server were hacked, so I’ve been rebuilding everything on a new server. LOTS and lots of work. I’m in Day 3 now, but I don’t think I’ll get getting much done because I have to work today (and it’s laundry day). Some idiot hacker, instead of earning his due like the rest of us, not only steals for money, he steals away from my time otherwise spent in labor to earn food for the family.

In other news, it looks to be a hot one in Upstate New York today– 70 degrees! I’m already sweating, lol. Industrial equipment lik air fittings and such can be rather interesting– almost beautiful especially in a rural setting.

And in case you were wondering– no, the photo has NOTHING to do with anything in the post. I just like the colors of tractors.

The blip was very brief, did you notice? My blog was down for a few hours. I changed my server and reinstalled EVERYTHING. Thank God it’s not as difficult to rebuild a blog like it used to be!

In case you haven’t heard, I was clobbered with an eval base64 code injection attack. I’ll be posting all the gory details on my tech blog, TheOlderGeek.com, after I have everything sorted. I have so far fixed half the blogs, so I’ve got quite a job ahead of me.

Maybe by now you are asking what the heck did I mean about birds being back…

Well, nothing except that today my yard is ablaze with birds, chirping and tweeting. It’s comforting to hear them while I pound away on the keyboard.

More to come…

In case you are wondering… NO, your iPhone, cell phone, and 32gb ipod touch will not work in the subway. “No Service” I kept getting. Nuts.

We probably spent a total of 1 hour on the subway, careening from Penn Station to the very top of Manhattan Island and back again. The ride is OK…. noisy as the trains clatter over the rails… crowded sometimes… we had to stand for a while on the way to Upper Manhattan… but the train rocks slightly and it’s rather mezmerizing. LOL.

The hardest part is not having cell service or Internet. During the time, I could be planning our latest trail or locating a cool new restaurant.. but no. No service. We are resigned to looking around at all the advertisements and other bored passengers. LOL. Well, most of the other passengers either sleep or are engrossed in their books or paperwork. Commuting is tough work.

Anyway, I am looking forward to returning. I like NYC. There’s so much to see and do. Except on the subway….
