Long Day at The Office

LOL. Livvy always takes the best seats. Typical cat! And what a life! ;)

This is The Hubs desk. I can’t show you mine. It’s a DISASTER. I work from my desk (I’m a blogger and a writer), and a filthy, dirty desk is just a LITTLE demoralizing. LOL. I also have forgotten to pay a few bills, missed out on a few historical re-enactments this summer, and can’t find important things like concert tickets, new credit cards, and my USB drive with photos on it!! Gah!

In case you didn’t know, we’re renovating the house. I’m trying to keep the office closed off, sealed, and as dust-free as possible…. we’ve reached the Sheetrock installation stage, and keeping the dust out is IMPOSSIBLE. Especially when a certain kitty likes to explore and then prance across the desk. LOL

Well, I am definitely looking forward to having my life back (or, at the very least, my desk!). The disorganization is tough on me. Not only do I miss deadlines, appointments, and bill pays, but I miss my concert events and travel attractions, too!

The good side is that I’ve got the entire house wired and plumbed with NEW systems, and I’m finally getting my kitchen remodeled! Praise the Lord!!!! \o/ It will be done in a few weeks, I’m praying!

Old Tractor In Schuyler

We took a short trip out to Herkimer today. Traveling along Route 5, that ancient trail of the forefathers, was enjoyable. Despite the blistering heat and humidity, we kept the windows rolled down so we could snap photos of old houses, memorials, and farm equipment along the way.

The route from Utica to Herkimer (old Tryon County) is old. It was once the Indian trail for the Iroquois nations. Later, it served as the wagon trails for the settlement of Western New York and beyond. The scenery is lovely. The houses are aging– some charming, some not so. We saw a few ailing businesses still standing, too; mostly car shops and such. Antiques and corsets hawkers are further west (Bouckville is the antiques capital). Here in this area of New York, it is the architecture and farm implements that are the antiques. New Yorkers plod on, persecuted by meddling and greedy politicians, plagued by high taxation and an increasingly older population. We’ve got our history, we do.

Beautiful Union Station in Utica

Utica Union Station

Union Station in Utica, NY. Isn’t it pretty? I took the train to Manhattan a few weeks ago, what a blast. I can’t wait to do it again!

Union Station is built for many, many more travelers than what I experienced (about 15 to 20 of us, that day). The station is very large, and, as you can see from the photo, very clean and architecturally impressive. I don’t know much of the history of the building. It is located in the Baggs Square area, north of the city. It’s wonderfully old-fashioned– no blaring air horns and flashing LCD HDTV lights and images here. Very quiet, very restful. On a busy day, all the noise must float up to the top, near the ceilings. I could look at the ceiling there forever. Everything is beautiful.
